MGTHVEN SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The usual monthly meeting of the Methven School Committee was held on Tuesday evening Present—Messrs Geo Shann (chairman), D. Quinn, A,. Duff, JHibbs and J. 0. Me William.
An apolojy was rece’vod from Mr E. Butt for his absence owing to pressure of private business The head teacher's monthly rep >rt was read, showing that tha average attend ances during the last month were, boys, 31 5; girls, 31 3 ; highest attendance in one day, 69. The report of Mr Edge, the Inspector, on his recent examination of the school, was laid upon the table, and showed that the per centage of passes in all Standards was 89, and it was evident from the statements attached to the report that most of the failures were owing to the irregular attendance of some of the children.
The Committee adopted both reports, which they considered reflected greit credit upon Mr Seay, the head teacher, and his assistant, Mies Connell.
It was resolved—“ That the attention of parents be called to the necessity of sending thair children to school regularly to assist the teachers in their arduous duties, as well as to promote the f regress or the pupils. The Custodian of the school handed in a small amount received for the rent of the room for several entertainments, and after disposing of the usual ordinary routine business, the Committee adjourned.
