The Ashburton Guardian. Magna Est Veritas et Prevalebit. FRIDAY, MAY 22, 1885. The Local Option Vote.
We take this opportunity to remind ratepayers that a poll will be taken tomorrow to determine whether the number of publicans’, New Zealand wine, accommodation, or bottle licenses, may or may not be increased in the Ashburton, Upper Ashburton, or Mount Somers licensing districts. The poll for the Ashburton district will be taken at the Saleyards office, Tinwald, and at the Schoolroom, Hampstead; that for the Upper Ashburton district, at the Road Board office, Tinwald, and at Mr Cook’s residence, Winter’s road ; that for Mount Somers, at the Road Board office, Mount Somers. The polling booths will be open at 9 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. The Voting Papers will contain the two following propositions in respect to each class of license, viz ; 1. I vote that the number of ( ) licenses in the district may be increased. 2. I vote that the number of ( ) licenses in the district may not be increased.
The voter in each case is to strike out the proposition for which he does not intend to vote.
