One of them held Mecblenberg ■by the throat while the other rifled hie pockets, and the pair got off with Ll2 in cash. Defences. Major Oautley, and other defence officers, to-day inspected the North Bead defences. Death. T. X Waters, Secretary of Waste Lands Board, who has been in the colony since 1846 and a Government official for 25 years, died yesterday. Body Pound. m , VV Ellington , To-day. The body of Timothy Doyle, one of the men lost in the boat near the defence works a fortnight ago, was found on the beach at Evan’s Bay this morning. Bryce v. Rusden. Messrs Tola and Buckley, Commissioners in the Bryce-Busden case, returned to Wellington on Saturday, having completed the taking of evidence at Wanganni. About forty witnesses wertf'ezsmided, and it is not improbable the commission will be resumed in Wellington to medical evidence as to the exhumation and examination of the remains of those who were alleged to have been murdered. Mr Bryce has not yet decided whether he will go Home, but if not be will present himself for examination in Wellington. 'J he evidence has to reach London before November. Sensible Reform. The Minister of Justice will shortly submit to the Cabinet a proposal for the employment of shorthand reporters in the Supreme Courts.
