[fbb fbksb association.] An 1.0.XT Case. Kapieb, To-day.
In the Resident Magistrate’s Court today the RM. gave judgment in the case of the Official Assignee v Arthur Desmond. This was a case in which the Official Assignee sued Desmond for LIOO, alleged to be due on an 1.0. U. in the bankrupt estate of W. Barker. The original 1.0. 0. was for L 237, amount said to hate been paid by Barker for Desmond's expenses when he contested the Hawke’s Bay seat at the last election. The item* were disputed, and the Official Assignee, in order to bring the claim before the Court, sued for LIOO only. Desmond denied having signed thel.O.U. The Magistrate found that there was not sufficient evidence to support the signature, and on that point nonsuited the plaintiff, but on the bill of particulars gave judgment for plaintiff for L4O with costs. Journalistic Wellington, To-day. It Understood that Mr Edward Wakefield, M H.R., has joined Mr W. F, Bdyhouse as partner in the Evening Prets. Death of an Old Missionary. . Invekoabgill, To-day. Tb® Rev Mr Wahlers, for twenty-five years missionary to the Maoris, on the Island Buapeke, 'died on the* 7th instant, aged seventy-three. He was the first minister .to arrive in Southland.
