In the Resident Magistrate’s Court today the RM. gave judgment in the case of the Official Assignee v Arthur Desmond. This was a case in which the Official Assignee sued Desmond for LIOO, alleged to be due on an 1.0. U. in the bankrupt estate of W. Barker. The original 1.0. 0. was for L 237, amount said to hate been paid by Barker for Desmond's expenses when he contested the Hawke’s Bay seat at the last election. The item* were disputed, and the Official Assignee, in order to bring the claim before the Court, sued for LIOO only. Desmond denied having signed thel.O.U. The Magistrate found that there was not sufficient evidence to support the signature, and on that point nonsuited the plaintiff, but on the bill of particulars gave judgment for plaintiff for L4O with costs.
