COLONIAL DEFACES
(By Tblkokaph .) Wellington, To-day. The number of new Volunteer corps which have offered their services to Government has increased to ninety. A large number of these offers will have to be declined as the Government have not sufficient arms in the colony to arm them. Those accepted will be corps which can be easily concentrated at those places likely to require defences. Wellington defences will probably bo strengthened. by two 64-pounder guns mounted at Ngahauranga. Captain Badham has been added to examiners of musketry here. The : School of Instruction will commeoce operations here on Monday next. Colonel Whitmore and Captain Badham will leave for Auckland in a day or two to inspect the defences there. The Native Minister will probably leave for Wanganui to-morrow morning, and it is understood that he will visit the various districts along the West Coast.
