fPSR PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Death of an Old Colonist. Axjoklind, To-day. Thomas Macfarlane died in the hospital yesterday, from injuries sustained through being, knocked down by a train at the Auckland railway station on Tuesday last. Be was 74 years of age, and had been 25 years'iu the colony, and represented the Northern division in Parliament. He was a member of the firm of Henderson and Macfarlane till I*7o, and subsequently trustee in bankruptcy and curator of intestate estates. Frozen Meat. The Freezing Company started freezing ■beep to-day, to load the Aorangi here in Jane. Three hundred sheep per day will be frozen.

The Natives. D*yv Plymouth, To-day. The settlers on the West Coast are beginning to seel uneasy at the conduct of the natives at Parihaka. The Wares correspondent of the JJerald writes:—“Every Maori one meets still adverts to the story that the land is to be given back in June. About 5,000 Maoris are stated to be coming to Parihaka to assist at the meeting. Those who have been longest in the district ssy they have not seen the natives so sullen for many years, and fear the result of next month.”
Bryce v- Bnsden. Wanganui, To-day.
The Bryce v. Harden Commission sat this morning, formally. The Hons. Tule and Buckley are Commissioners. Mr Batten, of Auckland, appears for Mr Bryce, and Messrs Izard (Wellington) and Barnicoat (Wanganui) for Mr Busden. The bearing of evidence commences to. morrow, bat will not be open to the Press.
