Auckland The Hinemoi took three 64 pounders on board from the Waihora, for conveyance to Southern ports. The steamer Gieoelg and the sailing vessels Waitemata and Gazelle returned from Kawau, being unsuccessful in the attempt to get off the stranded steamer Macgregor. It was unsafe where she was lying to take the sailing vessels. It is probable a farther attempt will be made to morrow.

But for the prompt assistance rendered by the Fire Brigade and public a serious fire would have resulted. The buildings were two storey, and built of wood. The insurances on Webb’s building, owned by Louisson, were LIOO in the Standard, stock and furniture uninsured ; Hay’s stock, L2 o oin Victoria, building and furniture uninsured. Webb loses everything. Hay’s loss will be covered by the insurance. Nicholson’s and Perry’s loss is trifling. PuNEWN. A caucus of Otago members of both Houses will be held on Saturday, to consider the best means to adopt tu ensure a more vigorous prosecution of the Otago Central Railway.
