A magisterial enquiry was held this afternoon into the loss of the barque Oceania, in the Straits yesterday. After taking evidence, the Assessors postponed judgment till to-morrow morning. It is understood that a sculling match is likely to come off between Hearn, the champion of New Zealand, and Boniface, a resident of Riverton. The latter has challenged Hearn to row a three-mile race at Riverton for LIOO a side, the champion to concede a start of one minute. Hearn has replied that he is perfectly willing to meet ioniface, but he is not prepared to m>ke a greater concession than half a minute. Dunedin. The National Insurance Company have declared an interim dividend at the rate of 15 per cant. per annum. Two boys, aged 15, were committed for trial for house-breaking. They succeeded in climbing a Gft fence, and an entrance was effected by palling down several tiers of bricks. They discovered the key of the safe, and from cash boxes in it secured some L 7 15s. A third boy was concerned, but the evidence showed he only assisted in spending the money. John Sloan, a laborer, attempted to commit suicide by walking into the surf at Ocean Beach.
