From the Wakanui Hoad Board, enclosing resolution of the old Ashburton Hoad Boord with reference to cost of forming the Chertsey boundary.—lt was resolved —“That, this Board contribute its share of the claim sent in.” From Mr Thomas Taj lor, asking that the matter of making a ford on Ford’s road above the boundary be postponed for a time, in order, to give ratepayers interested an opportunity of inspecting the locality and agreeing or otherwise with the proposal.—The tenders called for the work were not opened, and the Surveyor was ordered to report upon the creeks on Ford’s road between Tinwald and the Boundary road.

SURVEYORS 1 REPORT. The Surveyors’ report was read and adopted as follows:—(1) Oraham’a Road ; The metalling of this road held over pending harvest operations, is now beingproceeded with.—(2) Shepherd’s Road : We have inspected this road, and fail to find any place requiring the ford asked for by Mr Oroy at last meeting, and would ask the Board to hold the matter over till Mr Oroy had been seen and the place pointed out. We may say that owing to the late dry weather it is difficult for us to decide this ma ter, and probably sufficient reasons may be adduced by the appTiomt, as there is no doubt a considerable quantity of water comes across this roadduring the winter months.—(3, Longbeach Road : The bridge on this road near Frisby’s has been again repaired.— (4) Dawson’s Hoad; As authorised at last meeting a ford has been made in this line of culvert on this road near Mr Kidd’s. B. Board’s cottages. —Wo have to report that arrangements were made with Mr Chapman to paint the cottages. The work has been carried out. — 6 Swamp roads, Lowcliff : We have been unable to tike the level) required, this mouth, but intend doing so soon after this meeting. — 7. Tenders have been called for making ford on Ford’s road just above Boundary road, and also repairing bridge and erecting dam at creek at Lowcliff —Poplar Toad : The formation of this road from side drain has been reported to us by the contractor as being completed, also the metalling of portion of obbin’s road and other small works in the neighbothood of Lowcliff. graham’s road.

The ?urvejor reported that be had taken levels from Caner’s creek to Graham’s road, and that in order to get rid of the water that is at present sent down Graham’s road i'. would be nocessa-y to have a now drain starting about 5 chains below the junction of the fence with the creek, and thence to the low place along the line of fence.—The Survej or was instructed to report to Mr Wilkin the result, suggesting that a drain should be out as reported. LONGBEACH HOAD The Chairman stated that Mr McCormick desired to have the fence repaired at the gravel pit iu his frontage on the Longbeach road.—Surveyor to report. OLD TIMBER. Mr Huon offered LI 5s for old culvert timber on JLongbeach, Beac.fi, and Dawson’s reals —The offer was accepted. GREAT SOOTH ROAD. The Surveyor was directed to write to the County Council re the control of the Great South road running through the Tinwald Town District. DEFAULTERS. It was resolved to sue defaulting ratepavers forthwith. The accounts ware passed and the Board adjourned.

Ratepayers’ Meeting. The annual meeting of ratepayers in the Longbeach district was held at the Road Board office yesterday. Present— Messrs Grigg (Chairman), Dobson, Graham, Gilmour, and others. The Chairman read the annual report as follows - —ln presenting our annual report there is but little calls for special attention. During the year the Board deemed it advisable to strike aema lrate, such as would be sufficient for ordinary work, repairs of roads and general expenses, and thus leaving it to any locality requiring special works to as' l- the Board to strike a special rate for that purpose. There is little doubt that in soma of the wards a higher rate will have to be struck during the coming year, as most of the main roads in the district will require re-metalling. We would point out to the ratepayers that the work of the Board has been done economically this year, the ordinary expenses being considerably less than any previous year, the figures showing a reduction of 32 par cent on last year (1883), 25 p r cent on tho'year 1882, L 9 per cant on the year 1881. As steps have been taken for the purpose of constituting the district south of the Hinds a separate Road Board, the existing arrangements wi’h the Board's officials will terminate, and it will remain for each Board to make any appointments that may be desired. In conclusion, we desire to express a hope that the general conduct of the business of the Board has met with your approval.

Tho Clerk read the balance sheet which, together with the report, was adopted. Mr Frisby referred to the Boundary stated he should like to see something done. He was informed that it would be as well if he could come before the Board with some definite proposition as to contributing part of the coat, with other persons interested. This was all the business, and the meeting adjourned with a vote of thanks tho chair.
