ATTEMPTED INCENDIARISM.
[By Telegraph.] Dunedin, To-day. What has the appearance of an attempt at incendiarism was made about lialf-past two yesterday morning. A quantity of coarse waste, taturated with strong smelling oil, and placed in the corner «f an inner room in an empty house at Burke’s, belonging to the trustees of the late J. Marshal. The Burke’s stationmaster was returniug home about 240 o’clock in the morning after passing a special train conveying the Kaikoura’s mails over the block signalling section, when he perceived the flickering light through ft casement of the house which adjoins the one occupied by him for the first time that day, and in which his little son was asleep. On looking in he found saturated waste alight in the corner, and instantly kicking it out and stamping on it, hurried into the next house, and snatching np his boy placed him beyond harm. tJ e then with water from the creek put out the fire. •
