Robert Boswjcll Middleton was charged to-day with delivering a fraudulent mar. riage notice to the Wanganui Herald. He stated that the notice had been given him by another party, but when put on his oath he refused to name the party. The Magistrate sentenced him to seven days’ imprisonment for contempt of Court unless he choose sooner to give up the name, and adjourned the case for a week.
The Premier. The Premier and party are expected down the Wanganui river on Saturday night The Premier will leave for Wellington as soon as possible after his arrival here. The San Francisco Mail, Wellington, To-day, The City of Sydney left San Francisco, with the March English mails, on March 12th, one day late. The Australia arrived at San Francisco, with the March colonial mails, on April 20th, one day before time* table date. Timber Royalty. Invercargill, To-day. At a meeting of the Waste Lands Board to-day Alfred Tapper, saw-miller, was ordered to pay Lll3 4s 9d, being the amount of royalty in excess of {that paid by him during the last twenty months. He was also mulcted in the costs of the enquiry, amounting to 120. . A Verdict. In the Supreme Court to-day the case of Bank of Australasia v Mclntyre, claim LL,OOO, was concluded, a verdict was given for the defendant with costs.
