9. [PKB PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 ] Drowned at Sea. Wellington, To-day. Daring the passage of the ship Halcione, from London, one of the crew named W. Sims, while bending the foresail, fell overboard, and owing to the heavy weather, the crew were not able to pick him up. An Appointment. Miss Kate Marsden, of Auckland, has been appointed matron t f the Wellington Hospital, vice Miss Biosling resigned. Miss Marsden is said to have had large experience in English institutions. Vessel Ashore. Christchurch, To-day. This morning the barque Joliba, outward bound for Port Adelaide, while beating out of the tarbor with a light breeze, went ashore on the South Head, near the pilot station. The accident was caused by a sudden shift of the wind, and the vessel refusing either to wear or stay drifted ashore. Fortunately there was bpt little spa running at the time or the result would probably bave been the complete wreck of the vessel, as it was the vessel, after remaining fast for nearly an hour and bnmping rather severely, slid off without assistance. f ~ , .
