COMMERCIAL.
Ashburton Guardian Office, Saturday afternoon. Messrs Friedlander Bros, report this afternoon upon the grain market :—Not many transactions have taken place in the grain trade, with the exception of a few lines in milling oats, which were purchased to execute Orders. As soon as these are filled we expect to see the values in this cereal drop u sympathy with the Sydney market, where oats have receded 4d per bushel since our last rereport. We regret to state that some of the samples which have been offered prove that the damage by the late rain to the wheat crops will be greater than was anticipated. Other samples again are not fit for shipment, and farmers would do well if they would allow their wheat to remain in sUck for a little before threshing. Our are Wheat ; 2s 6d per bushel for prime milling ; sprouted, about is lod to 2s. Barley ; malting, from 3s 6d to 3s pd ; feed, about ispd. Oats : Bright milling, is 6s to Is 8d ; feed, from is id to IS 4d, according to sample. Grass seed ;Up to 3s, according to quality.
