Vollbraoht’a Tobacco Company have resolved to open a branch depot in Wanganui for the Taranaki, Wanganui, Rangltilrai and Nelson districts. Minister for Mines. > Welli gton. Last Night. The Hon Mr Larnach left for the South •to-day, on a tour round the Otago goldfields. Tenders. It is understood that twelve tenders were received to-day for the erection of the Industrial Exhibition buildings. Sly Grog Selling. Blenheim, To-day. Prosecutions for sly grog selling are pending against the occupierjof the Grove Town Hotel, the license of which was cancelled on the tenth of March. At an early hour this morning the police visited the hotel and seized the whole stock of liquors, which were brought into town. The sly grog selling cases come on at the B.M. Court to-morrow. The hotel has been kept open ever since the license was cancelled. Embezzlement. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day, Joseph Green, on a charge of embezzling altogether L2OO, the property of Reid and Duooao, his employers, was committed for trial, bail being allowed. Church Damaged. . The gale on {Saturday brought down three of the stone pinnacles on the spire of the Presbyterian First Church, the damage being estimated-at LSO. Kaitangata Company. The Kaitangata Railway and Coal Com pany have declared an interim dividend at the rate of ten per cent. Increased. The Jockey Club has increased the added money for the May Meeting from LBOO to LI,OOO. . Boxing Match. The boxing match, Mathews v. Pattengell to-nighr, was easily won by Mathews. It only lasted a few minutes, when Pattengell could not come to time.
