Ashburton Guardian Office, Saturday afternoon. Mr T. Bullock reports on the horse ma>ket for the week ending Saturday, February 14 : On account of harvest operations very few horses have been brought forward during the last three weeks. There have been several enquiries for young medium draughts of a good description, and those offered have realised fall market rates ; but for inferior horses of all descriptions there are few buyers, but I have no doubt as the time approaches for ploughing for wheat, aged and other medium draughts will be mote saleable. —Timber: On Thursday, 12th instant, I held a clearing sale of a large quantity of timber and other building materials on account of Mr A. Tapper, who is relinquishing the Ashburton branch of his business. There was a very good attendance, and the following prices were realised, viz.:— Scantlings, 4 x 2 and 4 x 3 good, ros 6d to lOS pd ; inferior, 6s to 8s 6d according to quality j black pine and totara, 4x2 and 4 x 3 mixed lengths, • 10s to 12s 6d ; ditto, lOS 6d, inferior, from 8s to 9s 3d ; rusticated, rather inferior, 8s to 9s 96 ; feather-edged weatherboards, 8s to 9 s 3d 5 V.D.L. 5 feet palings, 15s to, 16s 6d; 6 feet ditto, 2is. Building for removal, Ln 10s; portable vrhare on wheels, Li 7.
