Ashburton Guardian Office, Friday afternoon. The following is the Christchurch Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, 6th Instant;—Expectations of improved weather have not been at all realised, the torrent of nin which fell from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning having damped both the pain and the hopes of farmers to a very considerable extent. Large areas in stock must be seriously injnred by the deluge, more esrwjjb as.. the . tempe-ature is so high, that sprouting must inevitably follow. It is to be feared that this uncut wheat will be so beaten dowpas to entail great difficulty in reaping. AltolpEher the outlook is very unpromising, and las cast quite a gloom over the agricultural districts, the only gleam of comfort being the prospects of better prices for those who were fortunate enough to have early crops. The of farmers to secure their crops has prevented their appearance in the market, consequently less business has transpired than is usual at this time of year. Sales have - been confined principally to a few lines of early wheat and oats, wbilft barley meets .with a little more attention at below quotations. The demand for rye grass seed is sickening slightly, buyers’ requirements being pearly satisfied. The block between vendors and purchasers of cocksfoot is ndt q' ite removed yet, both classes holding firm Id their values. '* Some fine peas are now coming Toward, but prices asked are not responded to. There-is tto alteration to note in regard to : dairy produce.
