LICENSING COMMITTEE ELECUIONS.
Ashburton Borough.
The Licensing Committee election attracted very little attention from the general public yesterday, but the Licensed Victuallers and the Good Templars displayed some activity in the interests of their respective nominees. Four of last year’s Committee were returned, and Mr Donald McLean took the fifth seat, its former occupant, Mr Andrew Orr, not having sought re-election. At 7pra , Mr 0. Mr Braddell therefore declared Messrs T. Sealy, D. Thomas, S. Saunders, R. Alcorn, and D. McLean duly elected Committee-men for the Licensing District of the Borough of Ashburton.
Ashburton DistrictMore than the usual interest was taken in this election yesterday, but there being only one polling booth for the very large district, a number of ratepayers were practically disfranchised. The following was the result: Grigg J. ... 59 McLean, D. ... ... ... 53 Dudley, O. T 50 Harper. C. J. 49 Thomas, D. ... ... ... 43 Chapman, S A ... ... 24 Andrews, G. Thomas duly elected Committeemen for the Licensing District of Ashburton.
