News is to hand from Korti that a British convoy was recently attacked hear Gukdul by a body of rebels numbering over i,ooo. Heavy fighting took place, with the result that the rebels were repulsed after a severe shelling from the British guns. It is stated that 600 men of the Canadian militia are coming to England to do garrison duty in place of the troops being despatched to Egypt.
Three battalions of the Guards, under orders to proceed to the Sou* dan, ’’will |embark at for Souakim direct on Saturday next.
- {Received February IJ, 12.30 pm) CaJKO, February 10Sir Charles Wilson, who was wrecked while returning from Khartoum to Metemneh, has been rescued from the island on which he landed near Shabukli cataract, and with his detachment has reached Metemneh in safety. He has since arrived at Korti to confer with Lord Wolseley in respect to more troops being despatched from Korti. „
Sttakinc, February 10 News has reached here that Osman Digna is massing a large force of Mahdites near Tami, between this place and Berber. Bombay, February IQ. The troops to be despatched to the Sotidan from India will consist of Indian Native Regiments.
