FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
Dunedin, Yesterday. Mr M. Stephenson, General Manager of the Australian Frozen Meat Company, now in Dunedin, has given the Daily Times some interesting information about the carrying on of the trade in England. He urges that there should be a consolidation of agency and regularity of supply, and holds that it is not practicable to pass over the London salesmen. Contracts should be made with large public institutions, and the rest of the meat placed on the London market. Regularity of price—not occasional high prices and re-actions—-should be aimed at, and the River Plate meat, which has greatly improved, must not be despised. He laughs at the objections to New Zealand meat being sold as English, and says, the obj-ction should he that it is not at once called “ Scotch mutton.” If butchers get better prices by selling it as English, they can afford to give a better price for it. He also thinks it absurd to talk about the competition of “ rings” in the trade keeping down the price of frozen meat.
