WELLINGTON R.O. ANNUAL MEETING.

Wellington, Yesterday. The following are the results of the concluding events at yesterday’s meeting : •-

Wellington Cop, 400 sovs; second horse to receive 25 sovs from the stakes. 2 miles Mr D. O’Brien’s Tasman, Oat 6lb (Derrett) 1 Captain Russell’s Tigredia, Bst 31b (Eudings) 2 Mr J. Pilbrow’s Sou’-Wester, Sat slb (Clifford) 3 The Poet, 7st 81b ; and Armourer, 6st 121 b, also ran, Minerva and Lady Evelyn were scratched. At the start the betting was—Sou'wester, even money ; 2 to 1 agaf Tigredia, 4 to 1 agst Tasman and the Poet,

From an excellent start the Poet went to the front, and on crossing the road led by a length from Armourer, Son’-Wester next, Tigredia fourth, with Tasman at her girths. Coming past the stand, and along the bottom turn by the river, Poet still led, Armourer half a length away, with Tasman and Son’-Wester next, and Tigredia bringing up the rear. After going a quarter of a mile Sou'-Wester left the ruck, and was soon alongside the Poet, Tasman then lying fourth, with Tigredia by his side. Here Annotarer fall away heated, and at the road Sou’-westes had wrested the lead from Poet, with Tigredia second, and Tasman, on the outside, third, As the straight was entered it appeared a moral for Sou’ -wester, but both Tasman .and - Tigredia challenged him, and the ran. home was one of the most desperate ever seen on the course. Tasman gradually drew away from Sou’wester, and Tigredia coming fast also passed Mr Pilbrow’s horse, but was unable to catoli Derritt, who won with Tasman by a length in the good time of Smin 38sec, Sou’-wester a good third. Dividend, inside (L2 shares). L 10; outside, L 4 14s.

Stewards’ Handicap, of 160 sovs ; miles. Mr D. O’Brien’s Kubina, flat (Derritt) 1 Mr Pilbrow’s Ugly Buck, 7st 31b (White) 3 Mr M. O’Brien’s Normanby, 6at 101 b (Holmes) 3 Ugly Buck led for a mile, when Rubina came up and won easily by a length. Time, 2min 42£sec. Dividend, LI 16s.
