Training Wptes- ■ Wellington, Yesterday.
This morning the Island Bay coarse i resented a busy scene, the majority of tftg

Daring pare of the time the rain came down heavily, and A toot’s billet was by no means a pleasant one. Dan O’Brien’s team were oat early. Tasman, looking first-rate, went round ,by himself, and was then picked up by Rubina and Gaiters, and the three did another circuit at half speed Mr Butler worked Fusilier and Talebearer ; the former went the Gold Oup distance, picked up at the three-quarter mile post by Talebearer, who brought him home pretty fast. Both horses wetit Wldba*"style, but Fusilier’s pipes were as noigyas yesterday. Linwood, in sweaters, want • three times round slow. Sou’-wsstar and t, Ugly Buck, separately, did a fast mile,; , the former went particularly welL Trickster travelled three times round at a fair pace. Lady Evelyn was out and did a fast mile. Black Bose only walked/ bat Clogs did a rousing gallop of a mile. Marniion also did a good gallop once round, moving freely and welL Several others were out walking. This morning a thanderstorm passed . . over the town, but after midday the weather cleared, and this evening there Is every probability of its being fine to- * morrow. The rain has done the Island Bay course much good, And unless there is more wet it will be capital going. There was a very large attendance at Tattersail’s to-night, and business was' more < animated. Tigredia is a decided favorite., for the Gold Oup, at 6 to 4. Black Bose has receded slightly, and is quoted at 3 to 1. The prices of the others in the Gold Gup show no alteration from quotations telegraphed last night. Jim was scratched for the first day’s hurdles at 4 this afternoon, and Salvage for the Gold Oup at' 7.30 p.m. This afternoon the owners and trainers engaged the bookmakers in a cricket match, when the latter sustained a hollow defeat.
