Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday afternoon. Mr T. Bullock reports on the horse maiket for the week ending Saturday, January 31st: — There was only a moderate attendance of farmers and oiher c< untr settlers. 39 horses were entered for the day’s sale, the biddings for which were not so spirited as on the previous Saturday, and former prices scarcely maintained. Nevertheless, a large proportion of those entered, viz , x 6 were disposed of as follows, viz.—Medium draughts, 4 years, from L14.10s to LlB I os, ditto of a better description tip to L 26 10s; useful farm horses, rather light, Lll to Li 2; 3-year-olds, suitable for light farm work, a pair changed h-nds at X9' los each, difo rather lighter, each L 8 10s and ■L9 ; aged draughts, L 7 10s to L 8 10s: Light harness horses—a number of this class were offered, but biddings were languid those sold only realising from L 3 10s to L 7 10s. Hacks, inferior, from L 3 10s to L 5 SS»5 S » "hh little demand. Second-hand dray and frame, L 8 2s fid, McCormick second-hand wire binder, L 7 10s. Sundries at market rates. Previous to the usual wee’ ly horse sale, 1 offered a quantity of mixed firewood from Waimate bush, biddings for which were slow. I sold a number of truck load.-, each containing 3 cords, long lengths at 16s fid per cord -L2 9s fid per truck, short lengths at Li per cord, L 3 per truck. This may be considered a very low figure here, as the railway freight is such a large item.
