These races were held on Saturday. The weather was beautifully fine, and there was a good attendance. Messrs Hobbs and Goodwin succeeded in putting nearly L2.00D through their totalisator. Betting —Even on Water King, 6 to 4 agst Grand Duke, 3 to 1 Rebecca, 5 to 10 to 1 any other. Grand Duke was quickest away, closely followed by Irish King and Nelly, Water King and Rebecca bringing up the rear. They passed the stand in this order. Irish King took command after they bad gone quarter of a mile, and Water King improved his position. Turning into the straight Water King and Grand Duke joined the leader, but Mr Quill’s colt stumbled and lost a lot of ground. Water King thtn had pretty well his own way to the post, winning cleverjy by three parts of a length from Irish King, who was half a length in front of Grand Duke. Time—2min 51 4-sths sec. Wellington, Saturday.

Thera is bat little betting on the forthcoming races. Black Bose and Tigredia are equal favorites, at 100 to 40. Speculation (lata Hippomamia) who was slightly injured on her voyage loom Wanganui, has not dona any work since her arrival. ~ O'Brien’s horses, Tasman and Bubiaa, are expected to arrive by steamer from Lyttelton to-morrow. Ike was scratched for all engagements at the Wellington Jockey Club’s Meeting to-day. Sou’wester and Ugly Back have been scratched for the Kilbernie Stakes. At the Bay this morning Sou’-wester and Ugly Buck did a rousing gallop over the Gold Cap distance, going well, and palled up sound. The other horses only did slow work. At the Hatt Mr Bate’s team came on early. Minerva, after walking a bit, did the Cup distance fast, going as well as cculd be wished. The Poet did the same trip at a good swinging pace. Both looked and want well. Painter, and Armourer did two miles Steadily, the Utter in sweaters.

The following acceptances were received last night for the W. J.O. meeting: Kilbernie Stakes —Rubioa. Minerva, Rally (late Whitbach), Slave, Talebearer, Marion, Putangitangi, Okato, and Dynamite.

Tasman, Rubina, Marion and Berrington arrived from the South this morning; 1 Black Rose, Clogs, Fusilier, Talebearer and Lady Evelyn were the only horses that did any work this morning. Black Rose, accompanied by Clogs, had a spin for a couple of miles, the first at half speed and the second at three-quarter. Both moved very nicely, but the Canterbury winner had all the best of it. Fusilier with Talebearer, did a couple of miles slow. Lady Evelyn was sent two miles alone, finishing fash The moved very nicely, and finished strong. Sou’-wester was on the course, but only walked. Tigredia is expected from Napier to-morrow.
