New South Wales. Sybiiey, January 15. At a banquet at West Mattlan 1, Mr Dalloy vindicated Government in the course pursued in regard to New Guinea annexation. He said ha was perfectly cett in that any man who presumed on a public hustings to asscr that any conduct on the part of the Imperial Government had ever shaken our allegiance to the Empire would simply bo covered with ridicule. When asked to join in a meaningless protest to endanger the relations of the Empire, he felt at once that oo could on no grounds whatever dream of taking part in such a proceeding. After a hearing lusting soma days the jury found the Golf to Palnca was wilfully burned down, and found some persons unknown guilty of wi ful murder and arson. Some of the evidence was of a very unsatisfactory character. There are no fresh cases of smallpox, and some of the patients have been discharged from quarantine. Admiral Tryon is expected to arrive in a few days, when ha will hoist his flag aboard the Nelson. The Miranda baa proceeded to sea. Her supposed destination is New Guinea. The Badbara testimonial so far amounts to L6OO. The increased tram fares caused considerable irritation. A meeting has been held to protest - Some rain has fallen, but the quantity is less than an inch. The Bondi rioters have been committed for trial. Queensland. A large meeting at Cooktown passed a resolution against the policy of the Imperial Government in allowing Germany to annex a portion of New Guinea. The schooner Young Dick, which has arrived at Maryborough with a hundred recruits reports that near Maticolo Island two settlers were trading for a German firm. One of them, an Englishman named Peters, was murdered. Four Kanaka employees were also murdered, and afterwards the surviving settler, a German, was surrounded and killed. 1

Information has been received that a man named George King, who left Tennant’s Creek with five horses, died of thirst. The horses are also dead.
Victoria.
The bootmakers' strike continues. The men are daily returning to work under manufacturers’ rules. Another ctse of smallpox is reported at Hotham. Meetings continue to be held, approving the action of Mr Service, and condemning the vacillating policy of Lord Derby.
