Ashburton Guardian Office, Thursday afernoon. Messrs Friedlander Bros, (in conjunction with Messrs RohertJ Wilkin and Co., pe-F. C. Tabart, auctioneer) report upon the live stock 'market for the week ending Tuesday, January 13th, 1885 There was no improvement in the sheep market since our last report. Entries in fat crossbreds consisted mostly of ewes, none of which were placed under the hammer. Three pens of merino wethers made 9s each, and crossbred wethers made 12s 6d each. Pn stores the entry was small; a small line of merino wethers in the wool, sound mouthed, sold at 8s 6d ; hoggets not rea'ising. reserves put on by the vendors were not sold, also a line of shorn merino wethers in forward condition-shared the same fate as] the hoggets. A line of about 150 this season’s lambs, the first in the mirket, were a miserab’e lot, which would have been better had they been left with the ewes for another two months, sold at 5s 3d each. Altogether the bidding was anything but spirited, and w.* do think that prices will still decline. In cattle there was also but a small entry, and prices quoted last week were ma ntained, with a good enquiry for anything in good store condition.
