The body of Maggie Harvey was found eight miles away on the beach, but tbe body of Sarah Harvey was not found when the messenger left. At the inquest on the body of the little boy Finlay a verdict of found drowned was returned. The Native Minister. Wanganui, To-day. The Native Minister arrived yesterday. Criminal Calendar. The criminal calendar of the Supreme Court sessions, which open on Monday, contains the names of seven alleged offenders. The principal case is that of Waring Taylor. Accident. John Laing, chief cook of the s. a. Arawa, was this afternoon found in an insensible condition in the forehold of that vessel. On examination it was found that he had sustained severe injuries to his head, apparently from the fall. No one on board appears to know how the man met with ms injuries. The symptoms ''ndicate that the skull is fractured. , Tbe Governor. His Excellency the Governor returns to HffIPHKSMfcC to-morrow. Lumpers’ Strike. W ellington, Saturday. The lumpers are still out on strike. The reason of the men going out was because employers demurred to the demand of the lumpers for 3d per hour extra in coaling rates. The Tongariro. Wellington, To-day. Arrived--At 11.30 last night, s.s. Tong&rira, from London, after a passage of 43 days, including stoppages at Tenenffo and Cape of Good Hope. The actual steaming was 41 days 3 hours. The passage'was a very pleasant one, and the passengers strived in excellent health. Among her passengers are the Yen. Archdeacon Govett and Rev. Inquest. At the inquest on the body of the young woman Mary Gamble, the evidence proved that she had left a note stating that she was tired of her life. A verdict was returned that tbe immediate cause of death was bronco pneumonia, accelerated by a dose of poison, but whether chloral or chloroform, or where obtained, there was not sufficient evidience to show. The criminal calendar commencing tomorrow ii heavier than usual, and comprises fourteen persons awaiting : trial. Three are charged with murder—Lawrence White, Thomas Crowley and Gerald Fitzgerald ; Baucamp Vandyke, shooting with intent; Matthias flillborend, wounding with intent; Samuel Smith, cutting aQ d wounding. There are three cases of larceny, four of forgery, one of housebreaking and stealing, and one of horsestealing.

* Manslaughter. At the inquest on William Matheson, the warder of Snacliff Lunatic Asylum, the evidence was to the effect that though some quarreling had taken place at the time the''blow was struck, Ingram and Matheson were good friends. The jury returned a verdict of manslaughter against Gordon Ingram.

Presbyterian Synod. The principal business to come before tbe Presbyterian Synod this year will be consideration of the question of union with the Northern Church. New Minister.

A meeting has been called by the Mayor for to-morrow night, to consider the action of the Land Board Commissioners with reference to the land at Kurow that hu been petitioned for to be opened on deferred, payment. The Commissioners in their report advise the opening of. the hind as pastoral land. The meeting is called to protest against this. There are oyer thirty persons waiting to settle on the land so soon as it is opened, and if the Board agree to the recommendations of the Commissioners there will be only fpom for seven or eight settlers, Nepthorno Murder. Dunedin, Saturday. Gerald Fitzgerald was brought up at the Police Court charged with the murder of William Me dram- at Nenthorne, and was committed for tml.

Inquest. At the inquest on the guard John William Whitehead, a verdict of “Accidental death ’’ was returned. The chief witnesses were the assistant guard and mail' agent. The latter deposed that Whitehead had told him that some of the carriages were so crowded he did not ■ like to pass, through.

Caledonian Sports. The third day of the Caledonian Sports was fairly wtll patronised, though spoilt somewhat by a shower. The Champion Wrestling was won by W. The'first case under the Police Oflences ' Act was tried to-day, a charge of obscene language.
