Escaped. A prisoner named Edward Murphy, sentenced to four months for larceny, escaped from the hard labor working party while in charge of a warder clearing the grounds of the Supreme Court.

The Premier having advised the Land fio&rd that under the existing law an inquiry into the suspected dummyiam at Toapeka West cannot take place at Lawrence, it has been decided to bold it in Dunedin in the ordinary way.
