WRECK AT GREYMOUTH.

The s.s. Star of the South in attempting to come in over the Greymouth bar yesterday morning, was caught by the current and swung round. The captain got up sail and endeavored to extricate himself from the perilous difficulty, but was unable to make any headway. The vessel is now touching the stonework with her bow just at the entrance, rising and falling with the swell, and striking each time, but apparently she is at pre<ent without any dapuge> Her sails are set, and steam is up. A crowd ashore have passed two spars aboard, and % man is landing children off her. There appears tp be sis or seven other passengers. A great crowd has collected, but there is no pxeitement, as there appears to be no immediate danger. Her hull is insured for LSOO each in the South British, New Zealand and United, and L 250 each in the Standard, Thames and Mersey, and National, also LSOO in an Home office*

(By Telegraph.) Greymooth, To-day. The Star of the South is gradually slipping into the river, the chains and hawsers being at the utmost point of tension, The bow is still out of water, bat the greater portion of the hull is submerged and water half way up the smoke stack. Other steamers are getting ready to go out .
