A very pleasant gathering of the pupils, parents and friends cf the Chertsey District School was held in the school grounds on Tuesday last. Windy weather marred in a slight degree the pleasure of the day’s outing, but notwithstanding all enjoyed themselves in the highest degree. The arrangements for the success of the affair were almost perfect, and the Chairman of the School Committee, Mr EL Childs, and his colleagues in office, Messrs • Doig, Campbell, Downie and Scarlett, may bo congratulated on the excellent result of their efforts to make the phnic a pleasure to all. The children were regaled at frequent intervals with plentiful supplies of refreshments of excellent quality ; aud, in connection with this part of the entertainment, Mesdames Childs, Wilcox, Scarlett and Todd rendered good service in their indefatigable efforts to minister to the wants of every one, young and old. During the earlier part of the day the children assembled in the schoolroom, and, under the leadership of their master, Mr D. Todd, sang a selection of their school songs with great spirit. A well deserved compliment was also carried to Mr and Mrs Childs for the time and trouble they had spent in bringing the treat to such a successful issue; also, to the various ladies who had graced the affair by their presence and assistance. Thereafter the children dispersed, sorry to part, but happy in the anticipation of a similar meeting next year.
