TREVORTON SIDE SCHOOL.

_ This new school, of which we purpose giving a short description, was opened this morning for the reception of pupils, under the charge of Miss Stewart. The building, which is in every way a most suitable one, contains many improvements on similar educational establishments, both in architecture and appointments. The site of the school is apparently a very good one, and is as near as possible in the centre of the now populous suburban dis* tricts of Trevorton and Hampstead, (and should prove very convenient for o .ildren attending it from a considerable radius. The main building is 22ft z 44ft with 14ft studs inside measurement,- with two lavatories (one for boys and one for girls) 20ft z Bft Gin. These latter are situated one at each end of the building, and con* tain every convenience .as regards water supply, hat pegs, etc. In the schoolroom j proper there appears to be plenty of room, - and excellent light is obtained from the large windows, which are placed in the. front side of the building. . Sloping np towards these are erected graded platform# for the infant classes as well as those in the higher Standards. The walls are lined with an upright dado of alternate red and white pine to a height of about 4ft ail round, and above the plaster walla fx'end to the centre of the ceiling, where, the usual large ventilators, running the entire length of the room, are placed. The roof is supported by five wocden principals, which stand out from the cello ing and are stained and varnished, which gives the room a nice effect. . The heating appliance consists of a very efficient, combination of stove anc grate, which throws out a great heat- when required, and is so placed as to give the greatest effect with the least possible consumption of coal. The ventilators are constructed so that by a simple contrivance fresh ait can be let into.the room from each of the four corners of the room through pipes running up the walls to a height of about 7 it. \1 together the building is a credit to the district, and the excellent manner in which the details have been carried out by the contractor, Mr Geo. Parkin, deserve to be recorded We might stats also that ha has completed the contract within eighteen days of the specified time, thus enabling the school to bs opened during the current year. .The cost of the building, fencing, 'etc., 14 L 470. •
