Handicap Hurdle Race, of 25 sots (over six flights cf hurdles, about 3ft Gin high), and a sweep of 1 sot each, to be paid to the Secretary before 9 p. m. the night before the races; to go to the second horse Distance, li miles. Nominations, sovs ; acceptance, 1 sots. 3. The Methven Ccp, a handicap of 50 sovs and a sweep of 2 sots each (to be paid to the Secretary before 9 p.m. the night before the race) to go to the second horse. Distance, ih miles. Nomination, 2 sots ; acceptance, 1 SOT. 4 Trotting Pace, a distance handicap ’ of 12 sots. Distance, 3 miles. Nominations, 1 sot ; acceptance, 1 sot.. 5. District Hurdle Race, a handicap of 15 sovs; over six flights of hurdles, about 3ft Gin high. Distance l£ miles. Nomination, 1 sots ; acceptance, 1 SOTS. 6. District Selling Hag v Race, of 1® sots ; the winner to be sold by auction immediately after the race for 10 sovs, any surplus over that amount to go to the funds of the Club; catch weights. Distance, 1 mile. Entrance, 1 sot. 7. Consolation Handicap, of 15 sovs, for horses that have been beaten during the meeting. Nominations to be made to the Secretary immediately after the District Selling Race. Nomination, 1 sot ; acceptance free, to be made within ten minutes after the declaration of the weights. Distance, 1 mile. RULES AND REGULATIONS. 1. No entry will be received except on the condition that all disputes, claims and objections arising out of the racing shall be decided by the Stewards, or whom they may appoint; their decision on all points in carrying out the programme to be final. 2. Canterbury Jockey Club Racing Rules strictly adhered to. 3. A district horse shall mean any horse whose owner has resided in the Mount Hutt or South Rakaia Road Board districts, or Alford Forest as far as Bowyer’s Stream, thence along Thompson’s Track to Mitcham for three months immediately preceding thoraces, and has been their bond fide property during time-

Nominations for Handicaps to be accompanied by fees, name, age, and performance of the horse and colors of the rider to be sent to the Secretary, addressed Methven Hotel, before 9 p.m. on Nov. 25th. Weights will be declared on Bth December. Acceptances and General Entries to be made to the Secretary, at the Methven Hotel, not later than WEDNESDAY, December 17th, at 9 p.m. G. COWAED, 10 194* Hon. Secretary. Mount somers annual SPOBTS AND EACES Will be held on BOXING DAY, DEO. 26, 1834. PROGRAMME. 1. Maiden Plate, of 5 sovs, with a sweepstake of 5s each. Entrance, ss; 1 mile ; post entries ; weight-for-age; for all horses which have never won an advertised race. 2. Handicap Tkot, of 8 sovs. Entrance, 10s ; acceptance, 5s to go to second horse ; miles ; post entries ; no weight under list 71b. 3. Mount Somers Cup, handicap of 10 so vs. Entrance 10a ; acceptance 10a to go to second horse ; 1£ miles; winner of Maiden to carry 7ib extra ; entries to be lodged with the Secretary before 7.30 p.m. on Deo. 19. 4. Pont Race, of 3 sovs ; second 1 J sov ; entrance, 5s ; height not to exceed 144 hands ; f mile ; post entries; catch weights. 5, Shepherd’s Race, of 5 sovs, with a sweep of 5s each for second horse. Entrance, 7s 6d; 1 mile ; post entries ; minimum weight list. 6. Novel Race, of 3 sovs, second horse to save entrance fee ; 4 mile ; entrance, ss; post entries; catch weights. Will be run on the same principle as a donkey race, the last horse winning. RULES. 1, All races confined to district horses. 2. A district horse shall mean any horse that has been commoniy resident in that portion of the old Mount Somers Road District lying south of the north Ashburton from 30th September, 1884, and up to the dale of the forthcoming meeting, and owned by a person who has resided in the said district during the same period. 3. The decision of the Committee or whom they may appoint to be final in all cases of dispute or on all points in carrying out the programme. 4. All horses must be ridden out as long as they have a reasonable chance of winning. 5. Three horses the hoiia fide property of different owners to start or no race. G. No protest will be entertained unless made within 30 minutes after the race is run, accompanied by a deposit of 20s, which may be forfeite I should the protest prove frivolous. 7. Owners of horses must be subscribers of 10a to the fund. 8. Race No, 6 will bo confined to employees on stations paying rent for waste lands of the Grown. First race to start at 11 a.m. 11 2218 W.
