Fishing Regulations. E. egulations. 1. These regulations shall come in force from the date of the publication thereor in the Neio Zealand Gazette (October 2, 1884). - „ 2. Liceases to fish for trout in all the rivers, streams and lakes in the Provincial District of Canterbury north of the Fangttata river, will be issued under the hand of the Secretary of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Soceity, at Christchurch, and for every such license a fee of twenty shillings will be charged : Provided that it shall not be obligatory upon the said Secretary to issue a license. 3. Every such license shall entitle the person named therein to fish in any of the said rivers, streams and lakes from the fifteenth day of October in any year until the fifteenth day of April in the year following inclusive, between the hours of 5 a .no. and 10 p.m. only ;_but such license shall confer any right of entry upon the land of any person without his consent; and any person fishing or attempting to fish or take any salmon or trout, except during the above-men-tioned period, shall bo liable to a penalty not exceeding LSO. 4. Every such license shall entitle the person named therein to fish with one rod and line, and with the bait or devices authorised by these regulations only; and any person who shall use any ground bait, or any net (except a landing pet) or other engine, instrument or device not expressly authorised by these regulations, or shall use or employ either of the methods known as “ cross line fishing ” or “stroke hauling,’’ or any other unsportsmanlike device, or shall use as a bait, salmon roe, fish roe, or any bait prepared with any chemical or medicated dressing whatever, for taking fish in any of the said timers, streams or lakes shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding LSO; and every such net or other engine, instrument or device used contrary to these regulations shall be forfeited. 5. Any person fishing without a license >r any person who shall on the demand of my ranger, constable or officer of the Acclimatisation Society, fail to produce rad show to such ranger, officer, or con stable his license, or the contents of sreol or bag, or the bait used by him jr :aking fish, or any person who shall, on lemand of a person holding, and showing i license fail to produce and show to such jeraon the license (if any) held by him, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding [*2o. „ , 6. No person shall use or fish with or slace on any hook or other device used or taking trout any bait of any kind or lescription whatever, except the followng :—Natural and artificial fly, natural sod artificial minnow, silveries, beetles, jraeshoppers, spiders, caterpillars, the arvte of the cadisfly and worm. Any peron found infringing this regulation shall se liable to a penalty not exceeding LSO. 7. Every trout not exceeding eight Dofaes in length, taken by any person, hall be immediately returned alive into ► he water from which the same is taken ; nd any person infringing this regulation hall be liable to a penalty not exceeding *2O. 8. Any person who shall put, throw or lace, or allow to be put, thrown or ,laced into any river, stream or lake in be said Provincial District of Canterbury ny poisonous, deleterious or noxious material, wiih - intent to destroy any fish herein, shall be liable to a penalty not xceeding LIOO. 9. No person shall 'buy, sell or expose r offer for sale, or fieh for the purpose of btaining any salmon, trout, perch or such in order to make sale of the same or ny part thereof, for a period of two years rom the date of the publication of these egulations in the New Zealand Gazette of )ctober 2, 1884; and any person afringing this regulation shall be liable to . penalty not exceeding LSO. 10. If any person shall be convicted of ny offence against these regulations, the icenao of the offender shall thereupon beome void.
