Ashburton Guardian Office, Thursday afiernoon. Messrs Matson, Cox and Co, report upon the live stock market, for the week ending Nov. 25th, 1884, as follows On Tuesday at the Ashburton yards we held our usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle and pigs, and the catalogue for the day’s transactions was a large and varied one. The attendance of farmers, dealers and others was rather above the average, and the bidding spirited as far as sheep were concerned. In fat sheep the entry consisted principally of crossbred fat shorn sheep and merino wethers in the wool, both of really good quality. In stores, the entry was comprised mostly of merino ewes and lambs with a few me ino wethers and crossbred hoggets all in the wool. In pigs there was a good entry of pedigree pigs, bred by O. Di. by, Esq, and several wHI bred sows. In cattle, the entry was fair, but the quality indifferent. We quote mutton at 2#d out of the wool to 3#d in the wool; beef, 15s to 18s per roolbs. in sheep, lat crossbred shorn sheep realised 13s to 14s; merino woolly wethers, 12s 4d to 12s lid, shorn mixed t wes and wethers, 5s 3d, merino ewes and lambs, 10=, 11s, 10s lod, irs 3d, crossbred woolly hoggets, 15s 3d. In pigS, I pedigree boar, L 6 6s and L 3 3s ; sows, £4, L 3 2s od, Li 17s 6d. In cattle, fat heilers, Lg 2S od, L 4 5 s and L 5 ; cows, L 4; store cattle, L2 10s, L 3 os 6d, Li 2s 6d, etc. We have also placed privately during the week 657 merino ewes and lambs at 11s 3d, and s°° crossbred shorn hoggets at us sd.
