Palmerston North, To-day. An old building known as Peck’s brewery, waa destroyed - by fire last night. Lyons's coi dial factory-adjoining bad a narrow escape. The fire is supposed to have been caused by the building being occupied by drunken tramps. Chairmanship. Nafieb, To-day. Mr F. Sutter, late M.H.B. for Hawke’a Bay, was elected for the seventh time. Chairman of the County Conncil to-day. Shipping. ’ Chbistcuoech, To-day. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s Steamer Ruapehu sailed this morning for Plymouth, with 68 passengers and a full cargo of produce. Fatality. V" ’ Oamabct, To-day. This morning a yonng man named Reid, « scavenger, was killed by his cart falling on him.
Dunbdin, To-day, A thirteen year bid sonjof Mr Me 0 onald, bf Waits! una, was killed by a fall from a hone.
