THE WRECK OF THE GOLDEN ISLE.
(by TELEGRAPH ) Wellisoion, To day. Henry Chaffey, cook an i seaman of the Golden Isle, states :—“ The vessel not making Cape Campbell on the 6th, the ship was hove to. here was thick weather and a heavy sea on the morning 'of the 7th. We saw cliff* on the lee to N. and E., and wore the ship, and made all possible sail, and after standing on both bows wore the ship again, and in doing so carried away the foreyard, which took with it the foresail jib, which also blew away. Having only three sails left, we reefed the mainsail and found we were amongst the breakers. We cleared the reef, and found no alternative but to beach the vessel. In beaching her a sea came aboard carrying away the cabin companion, stove in the main hatch, and took the captain down the hoH. The man at the wheel g t ashore by jumping into the back wattr, and 1 followed with another shipmate. The mate then hove a line which I received. The mate and captain lashed themselves together, dropped over the biws and were hauled ashore. The captain’s injuries were cuts about the faca, bruises on the left thigh and groin, causing a good deal of pain The vessel seems somewhat strained in thegarhmrd streak.
