TELEGRAMS.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] Direct Steamers. Auckland, To-day. Mr J. 0. Firth has telegraphed to the manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company the following:—“Great discontentment here about no direct steamers coming to Auckland, It looks like growing into a combination to ship exclusively by other routes. The Committee of the Chamber of Commerce meet to-day to consider action re direct steam recently taken. I hope you will at once check the rising movement by acting promptly and liberally.” Mr Coster replied that the Directors were prepared to see a fair proportion of the steamers come to Auckland, and arrangements would be made accordingly. * The San Francisco Mail. Wellington, To-day. The City of Sydney with the October English mails left San FrancisO’o for A uckland on the 25th ult, time table date. The Australia with the October Colonial mails arrived at San Francis:© from Auckland on the 2nd inst, three days earlier than time table date.
