CRICKET.

THE ENGLISH CRICKETERS.

[beeper's TEIjEGKAMS COPY EIGHT. ] Adelaide, Yesterday. The cricket match between the English team and Fifteen of Adelaide was concluded to-day, and resulted in favor of the visitors, who won by three wickets. ASHBURTON 0.0. V. HOROEATA 0,0. Owing to the non-arrival of the Hororata men nntil the afternoon train, play did not commence in the above match yesterday until nearly five o’clock. The visitors won the toss, and sent their opponents in to bat on a heavy wicket and a bad light. The consequence was that a poor stand was made at first, the bowling being straight and the deadness of the ground being against heavy scoring. Thomas, who weht in first, played carefully and made 29 before he was clean bowled by Simpson, shortly before time was called. Caygill,withl4, was the only other of the Ashburton men who managed to reach double figures, and at the close of yesterday’s play the score stood at 61 runs for ■even wickets. It was intended to resume the match at 10 o’clock this morning, but owing to the bad weather play did not commence till considerably later. Flesher was the only pno who made any stand and he carried bdt hlsbatfor a well played 18, the innings of the Ashburton eleven closing for 86. The visitors then went to the wickets but the bowling was too straight for them to score, while, the rain made the pitch treacherous. At 3.40 eight wickets were down for 49.
