MOUNT SOMERS ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the < Mount Somers Road Board was held at I the Board’s < ffice, Mount Somers, yes- 1 terday. Present— Messrs Pearhe (chair- 1 man), Edson, McFarlane and Mcßae. i CORRESPONDENCE. I The following correspondence was read: —(3) From Mr E. G. Wright, stating that the gates- required by the Board across roads passing through his property had been erected nearly six months, and adding that if the Board would devote the same attention to the formation of the roads as they had done to this question of gates they would win the gratitude of the writer.—The Clerk was directed to reply that complaints had been made by ratepayers to the Board, and that it was not the desire of the latter to put Mr Wright to any unnecessary trouble. The overseer was directed to enquire into the matter. —(2) From Hon W. S, Peter, request ing that stones be removed from the Boundary road between Atlanta and the bridge.—The Clerk was directed to reply that the Board had recently expended a considerable sum upon this road, and the Rangitata Board had declined to contribute their share, and the Board while willing to pay half the cost could not undertake the work until a settlement was obtained from the Bangitata Board In the meantime Mr Peter was recommended to apply to the latter body for the work. —(3) From the Chairman of the Alford Forest School Committee, requesting that a foot bridge might he erected over thp creek crossing the road between Taylor’s stream and the Alford Forest Hotel, as in
wet weather it prevented children attending school.—The creek referred to being a County water-race it was resolved to ask that body to place planks across this and other races in the district.—(4) From Messrs Dunbar Bros, applying for certain works on the road between Lake Heron and ' Oient hills.—The applicants were authorised to expend L 6 on the work required.—(s) From A. W. and 0. Smith, asking permission to place gates on the roads petween Baxter’s and Symes’s sections.—The permission was granted subject to the consent of the owners interested being obtained.—(6) From Mr A. Ft Merreweather, replying to an application from the Board for LlO, an amount alleged to have been promised by him for works on the Lake Heron road, stating that his promise had been misunderstood. —lt was resolved- “ That if Mr Merreweather persist in repudiating his liability the Board decline to incur any further expenditure on the road during the current financial yeir. ” —(7) Frcm the Wakanui Road Board, enclosing a resolution in respect to local Government.—lt was resolved to reply that it was, the intention of the Board to pursue the steps already commenced towards obtaining separation, as they considered that the only coarse by which the ratepayers could secure a remedy for the existing evils ; and, further, to add that in the opinion of the Board the ratepayers have a good opportunity at the forthcoming elections to return members favorable to the Road Boards being the only rating body within the County. WBSTERPTBLD STATION It having come to the knowledge of the Board that an attempt was being made to secure the removal of the Westerfie’d station to a point nearer the terminus, it was resolved to write to the Minister for Public Works and to Mr W. 0. Walker, M. H. R., protesting against any coat being incurred for the purpose until the line was completed to the terminus indicated in the Commissioner's report, TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted : No. 1, formation and shingling Buccleugh road, James Johnston, L 65 ; No, 2, formation of Gough’s road, A. Harvey, L 23 10s ; No. 3, shingling Ford and Newton’s road, A. Harvey, L 24 fid; No. 4, protective works at Rooky Point, S. McClymont, L3O. overseer’s report. The Overseer’s report was read and adopted. CROSSING NEAR ARMSTRONG’S. It was resolved to put this crossing in order. STATION ROAD. It was resolved to expend L3O upon repairs required by this rnad. COMPLAINT. Mr Ede complained that stones had been removed from the road on to his fence line, and the Overseer was directed to report on the alter, ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to LB6 15s fid were passed for payment. ADJOURNMENT. The Board then adjourned until Monday, Ist December, 1884.
