Gratitude was first to show in front at the start, with Tremando, Mozart' and Seahorse next, and Leporello, Bargo and Hippogrifi last. Passing the stand Merrimu assumed command half a length in advance of Gratitude, then came Tremando, Hippogriff, Mozart, and Bargo, with Rufus last. Merrimu maintained his advantage round the turn and along the river, about a length in front of Gratitude, who was just clear of Tremando and Bargo. Their relative places were unchanged, except as regards Bargo, who had improved his position. At the abbattoirs Gratitude_ resumed the lead, with Merrimu at her heels, Tremando, Seahorse and Bargo following in the order indicated. Up to the home turn Gratitude continued to lead the field, and was first to enter the straight, with Tremando, who had Come forward, running in second place. Bargo, on the outside, now made hirf effort, and succeeded iu passing Tremando, and joined issue with the leader, but only too quickly to relinquish the position in favor of Dav>d, who took the lead below the distance. At this point Rufus, who had held a position in the body cf the ruck throughout, came' with a rush, and quickly overhauling the leaders tackled David, a good, race by half a length.
