The‘usual monthly meeting of the ~S nui ® oad Bpa J rd wa “ held th « morning. Present—Messrs Mayo (Chairnan}, Walsh, Cole, Bruce and Megson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
WAXES BIOS CROSSINGS. The Surveyor was instructed to again v «all the attention of the County Council 'Engine; r to the grades of the water race crossings on (he Beach and Seafield roads, and* recommend that the grades should ; BO* be more than 1 in 10. - - OORWESrONDBNOE. The Surveyor reported as follows (l) Smithfield road :, The contractor has started, and is progressing with this work. (2) Rule’s road : The skim ''ploughing of this road and filling up of low places is close upon completion. (3) Wakahjni School road ; The reformation of the sides of this road is nearly * finished., Delay has occurred in this contract, ... a certain amount of which is attributed to the gorse on the road and broken weather preventing the contractor, as he affirms, from making much progress, but there is no doubt the work ! 'should have been completed by this. (4) Maintenance : The contractors for maintenance have been at work on roads in Nos. 2 and 3 ■ wards. The work r is of a more satisfactory nature than that previously done, especially in No. 3 ward, (j) Boundary road: The reformation of this road has been duly com--pleted. (6) Wakama School road : A complaint having been made that the approach to one of the cuttings near the school caused thei water to back on the land, we inspected the same and found such was the case. We \tbcrefore‘had-the necessary pipes put in. (7) Hampton road : This road—consideration of ' which 'was deferred at last meeting — has been ’ Inspected by ourselves end the members repre- : senting the ward, with the view of ascertaining ' the necessity of forming it.-—Leadley Road by Stewart’s. 1 We have inspected this road. • There is noHoubt it is very bad during -wet weather, the clay cutting up very badly. The . cost of making a drain we estimate at L 7. Being-a boundary road the cost would have to . bc divfded between Nos 1 and 2 Wards. WAXANUI SCHOOL BOAD. On the motion of the Chairman it was .resolved to give the contractor referred to in Clause 1 of the Surveyors report, notice that unless the work was completed in four days, -the penalty would be enforced. Corbett's koad. It was resolved to call for tenders for forming the continuation of Corbett’s .Bead towards Meredith Wilson’s, a distance of about 20 chains—The remainder . of the-report was adopted. . . A NUISANCE. The Chairman stated that a dead horse bad been thrown into the creek near A Xrevor’s Road, and residents in that locality had complained of the nuisance. The Surveyor was authorised to procure a supply of quick lime to abate the nuisance, -and to place the matter in the hands of the police, with a view to discover the owner ol the horse, WAKANUI CBEEK. On the suggestion of Mr Megson the Chairman was requested to ascertain who was responsible for the maintenance of the ford near Lamb’s, and to take such action as he considered necessary.. ’ BATES COLLECTED. The Surveyor reported that the following .amounts had been collected for the current year:—No 1 Ward, L 27 3s 3d; No 2 Ward, 15016 s Ud ; No 3 Ward, 13919 s LI 17 18s iOd. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment, viz :—Tucker and Restel), LI 17s 4d ; Guardian, LI 7s fid ; J. Daly, 19 6s ; W. Turtop, L2 ; N. Fitzgerald, 16; O. 0. Foots, 112 10s ; J. Allen, L 5; W. J.Silcock, Ll 5 ; LMangham, LI 8s; B. Bennett, Ls—total, Isß|Bs lOd. LOCAL OOVEBNMBNT. ' On the motion of Mr Megson the Board went into Committee to discuss the question of Local Government, and on resuming adjourned until Saturday, December 6tb, at the usual hour. ’
