A telegram from Ohinemutu last night •ays :—“This morning Constable Abrahams arrested a native named Mehana, a lunatic, for having murdered a native woman named Ta Tukemata, at Te Nga, yesterday afternoon. The body was afterwards buried, bat the constable had it exhumed and an inquest will be held. The murderer had bee a at one time in the Asylum, and on being questioned the ... reason he gives is that a spirit told h’m to "/ kill the woman.” Licensing Reform. ~ , - The Licensed Victuallers have decided that the Electoral’ Roll shall be the roll to bo used at the elections for Licensing Commissioners, and that if the Licensing Commissioners shall refuse the renewal of any license on the ground that t”e bou.-e was not required the owner to such_ house shall be entitled to-fair compensation for refusal. Any person feeling aggrieved at the decision of the Licensing Commissioners shall have the right to appeal to a higher Coart. InfanticideWellington, To-day. A case of infanticide occurred at Taneru yesterday. A young girl named Annie Anderson was confined of a child, which was subsequently found dead with marks of violence on the body. ' Supreme Court. At the Supreme Court this morning Annie Lynch, on a charge of making a false representation under the Marriage Act, was sentenced to eighteen months* ; imprisonment. The Unemployed. Christchurch, To day. A mooting of the unemployed was held in Cathedral square to-day. Resolutions protesting against the Government offering married men with families only 4s 6d per day for work up country, and offering _ to accept 6s per day were carried. . Discharged. Dunedin, To-day. The jury in McComb’s' case for sheepstealiug were discharged, being unable to agree, A frcih trial will be held on Monday.
