Mr Wason announces that ho will address the electors to-morrow evening at the Hinds School, and at tho Lismore School on Thursday. The candidate speaks at Ashburton on Monday next. At last evening’s meeting of the norough Council Cr John Orr stated his intention of moving at an early date that a drinking fount in be erected in East street. He regarded such an institution as a great benefit and a necessity, and he hoped Councillors would think over the matter. Or .elsou was of opinion that the -sayor should celebrate the conclusion of his third year of office by presenting a fountain to the Borough, but Cr arrison thought that tha burgesses themso vea might put their hands in their pockets and build a memorial of Mr Williamson’s triennial mayoralty themselves, placing upon it a suitable inscription. Which suggestion found favor i.x the eyes pf'the Chairman himself did not transpire, as that gentleman's countenance was as inscrutable as the Sphynx, while he preserved a judicious silence in the matter.
Cr St Hill’s letter resigning his seat on tho Borough Council was read at last night's meeting, and the resignation was accepted. A minor election will therefore divide the attention of the burgesses at the same time as the more important choosing of Parliamentary representatives will be going on.
At a meeting of the Temperance Union Committee it was unanimously resolveo that a public meeting be held in the Town Hail on Wednesday, July 9th, to beaddressed by several gentlemen on the political aspect of the temperance question, the Parliamentary candidates to be invited.

Mr Walker addressed the electors at Mothven last evening. There were fully 250 pers ns present, and a considerable number were unable to obtain admission on account of the crowded state of the solieolhouse. Mr Walker’s address occupied rather more than an hour, and at its conclusion lie answered a large number of questions put to him by the au ienca. The proceedings throughout were of a most orderly character, a fact which attracted the more attention on account of the reverse having been anticipated, a fear for which the antecedents of some of our Melhven friends are not wholly irresponsible. It is particul rly gratifying to bo able to record that the creditable reception accorded to All Walker was in a great measure due to the personal influence of some of Mr Wason’s prominent supporters. 1 The usual monthly meeting of the Borough School Committee takes place this evening at 7.30. A root race took place this afternoon on the new Sports Ground, East Belt, between James Macfarlane and A. Fosse, the distance being half a mile, and the stakes L 5 a side. There was a fair attendance, but the strong nor’-wester blowing at the time made things rather unpleasant. Tho two men got well away from the start, Macfarlane going immediately to the front at a good pace. It was soon seen that Fosse was quite out of the race, as after the first lap his opponent was about 30 yards ahead. This lead he increased and came in an easy winner by more than a hundred yards, Fosse giving up the contest when about that distance from homo. Macfarlane is to meet J. M. O’Connor next Tuesday in a, quarter-mile hurdle race, over eight flights of sticks, and taking into account the plucky running of the winne. to-day, the race should be a close one. During the gale which was blowing at Dunedin on Saturday a horse and van were blown over by a gust of wind and the driver slightly injured. The van was smashed to pieces, and the cover blown a quarter of a mile away. A largely attended meeting of in favor of tho introduction of the Bible into schools was held at Dunedin yesterday The Hon T. Dick, Mr niton, and Mr Macandrew, M. H. R.’s, addressed the meeting in favor thereof. At a stormy meeting of shareholders of the Koranui Goal Mining Company held last evening at Wellington, it was decided to wind up the Company, and Mr J. H. George, Chairman of the Company, was appointed liquidator. The Secretary of the Yew South Wales Rifle Association replies to the Secretary of the ! ow Zealand Rifle Association, stating that no special concessions could be made to an Auckland team of Volunteers visiting Sydney during the Associa- ! tion meeting.

Catarrh of tiik Bladder.— Stinging irritation, inflammation, all kidney and similar complaints, cured by ** Buchu-paiba.” The N.Z. Drug Co., General Agents. 3 Holloways Ointment and Pills.—. Notable Facts.—lntense heat augments the annoyances of skin disease and encourages the development of febrile disorders; therefore they should, as they can, be remove by these detergent and purifying preparations. In stomach complaints, liver affections, pains, and spasms of the bowels, Holloway’s ungent well rubbed over the affected part immediately gives the greatest ease, prevents congestion and inflammation, checks the threatening diarrhoea and averts incipient cholera. The poorer inhabitants in large cities will _ find these remedies to jbe their best friends when any pestilence rages, or when from unknown causes eruptions, boils, abscesses, or „|p P „i; on „ poi.n uui the presence ol taints or imparities within the system, and call for instant and effective curative medicines. — [Advt.] The Bad and Worthless
are never imitated or counterfeited. This is especially true of a family medicine, and it of positive proof that the remedy imitated is is the highest value. As soon as it has been tested and proved by the whole world that Hop Bitters was the purest, best, and most valuable family medicine on earth, many imitations sprung up and began to steal the notices in which the press and the people of the country had expressed the merits of H. 8., and in every way trying to induce suffering invalids to use their stuff instead, expecting to ma-:e money on the credit and good name of H. B Many others started nostrums put up in simi lar style to H. 8., with variously devised names in which the word “ Hop ” or ‘‘Hops ” were used in a way to induce people to believe they were the same as Hop Bitters. aH such pretended remedies or cures, no matter what their style or name is, and especially those with the word “ Hop ’’or •* Hops ” in their name or in any way connected with them or their name, are imitations or counterfeits. Beware of them. Touch none of them. Use nothing but genuine American Hop Bitters, with a bunch or cluster of green Hops on the w t ; te label, and Dr scute’s name blown in th glass. Trust nothing else. Druggists and ch,mists are warned against dealing in im tations or counterfeit’’
