" Gentlemen, —At the request ot many Electors, I beg to offor myself as a CAN - DIDATE at the present Election. I propose to address you in the centres of population as soon as possible. 7 1244 W. 0. In pursuance of the Regulations of Elections Act, 1881, I, Walter Martin, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Ashburton, do hereby give notice that, by virtue of a writ bearing date the 27th day of ..June, 1884, under the hand of the Clerk of Writs, au Election will be hold for the return of ONE qualified person to serve as MEMBER for tho said Electoral District, and that the nomination of candidates will take place at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Ashburton, at noon, on the 14th day of July, 1884 ; and the Poll (it necessary) will ba taken at the several polling places of the said district on the 22nd day of July, 1884. First Race to start at 12.30 p.m. 1, Hunter's Hurdle Race (handicap), of 15 sovs, over six flights of hurdles, about 3ft 6in high ; nomination, 10s ; acceptance, 15s. Amateur riders allowed lOlbs. miles. 2. Winter Handicap, of 20 sovs, nomination, 10s; acceptance, 20s; miles on the flat. 3- Hunt Club Cup (handicap), of 20 sovs over such country and jumps as *he Stewards may appoint ; nomination, 10s ; acceptance, 20s. Amateur riders allowed lOlbs 4. Flying Handicap, of 10 sovs ; nomination, 10s ; acceptance, 10s, | miles on the flat. 5.
