Wright, Esq., as member for this district, I purpose offering myself as a Candidate, and will take the opportunity of Addressing you at the various centres at as early a date as possible. In pursuance of the Regulations of Elections Act, 1881, I, Walter Martin, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Ashburton, do hereby give notice that, by virtue of a writ bearing date the 27th day of June, 1884, under the hand of the Clerk of Writs, an Election will be held for the return of ONE qualified person to serve as MEMBER for the said Electoral District, and that the nomination of candidates will take place at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Ashburton, afnoon, on the 14th day of July, 1884 ; and the Poll (if necessary) will be taken at the several polling places of the said district on the 22nd day of July, 1884. To be held on the ASHBURTON RACECOURSE, on THURSDAY, AUGUST 7th, 1884 First Race to start at 12.3 ) p.m. 1. Hunter's Hurdle Race (handicap), of 15 sovs, over six flights of hurdles, about 3ft 6in high ; nomination, 10s ; acceptance, 15s. Amateur riders allowed 101 ha, miles. 2. Winter Handicap, of 20 sovs, nominaf'on, 10s; acceptance, 20s; li miles on the flat. 3, Hunt Club Cup (handicap), of 20 sovs over such country and j amps as *he Stewards may appoint ; nomination, 10s ; acceptance, 20a. RULES AND REGULATIONS. Ir No entry will bo received exoep> upon the condition that all disputes claims, aud objections arising out of the racing shall be decided by the Stewards, or whom they may appoint, their decision on all points connected with carrying out this programme to be final. 2. Ashburton Racing Club rules strictly adhered to. 3. Horses will not be qualified to compete in the Hunter’s Hurdle Race andHunt Club Cup, unless they have been fairly hunted to the satisfaction of the Committee during the present season with the Ashburton hounds, and have been commonly resident in the Ashburton County from May Ist, 1884, and up to the date of the forthcoming meeting and owned by members of the Ashburton Hunt Club who have resided in the same County during the same period. 4. All nominations to bo accompanied by entrance fees and ago of horse and colors of rider, and in the hands of the 1 Secretary not later than 9 p.m. on Satur--1 day, 26th July, 1884, Weights will be ; declared about Thursday, 31st July, 1884, and acceptances must be in the hands of ‘ the Secretary not iater than 9 p.m. on [ Tuesday, sth August, 1884. ; S.
