WAR IN TONQUIN.
Outbreak of Hostilities. [keuter’s telegrams—COPYßlGHT,] [Received June 27, 2.301p.m.] Bong Kong, June 26. Intelligence has been received of a fresh outbreak of hostilities between the French and Chinese troops in Tonquin. Accounts to hand state that a detachment of French regulars, numbering 700, were to proceeding occupy] Langson, an importantftown on the Tonquin-Chinese frontier, when they were attacked by a large force of Chinese, who had been holding Langson in violation of the treaty concluded last month between France and China. A severe engagement ensued, resulting in the repulse of the Chinese, who are said to have numbered 4,000, with heavy loss in killed and wounded. The casualities on the side of the French was given as 50 killed. In consequence of the outbreak .of hostilities in the patenotre the French Commissioner of Tonquin had been ordered to Pekin to demand reparation from the Chinese Government for the attack and the violation of the Trintsin Treaty. The French fleet under Admiral Courbet has further been ordered to proceed uorthwards to support the patenotres’ demand.
