THE SCHOOL INSPECTOR’S REPORT.
To THB EDITOB. , Sis, —The late correspondent on the ] above inbjeet cannot be said to be helpful 1 to it*'satisfactory solution. . First, when questioned the Chairman < denies the existence of a report, and de- < clines to publish' any correspondence till < he has received a largely signed requisi- < tion to do so, aud he only withholds it < oat of respect for the feelings and iLc imputation of Miss Harband. : But a member, who by his position ] elsewhere, would be expected to have a 1 considerable and beneficial influence in the Committee, recommends " Householder " to demand and insist upon the production of all correspondence on the matter in question; while Miss Harband . publicly relieves the Chairman from any . diffidence as regards herself and from his argument for its non-production. i Then u B.I.", writing on the subject in your last issue, states that he is informed on " good authority" that in regard to the suppression of the report the Chairman was overruled, by the Com-, mittee. Kot that the Committee had any selfish motive, " but simply to^ further the interest of the party the report was about." 1 must confess that it overtaxes my poor comprehension what is the intention of ' fins, phrase, and in order to arrive at a tight conclusion as regards " 8.1.'a " reliable authority, the public should know ■ '" something of its sourc£. i Householders have yet to learn that secrecy is- so .essential to the successful management of such an important public institution in which sll are so vitally "' interested, and require more education "" on this question of publicity before they consent to its being conducted in all the solemn darkness and stealth of a Nihilist's 'committee. Surely it is time the whole affair was published, or the. necessity of holding a *'* searching enquiry into the question at | issue and that of the entire working of .:;/■-.- theaohooli should be at once urged upon $* ■ j the proper authority ; the more so that I *'-''' teeny the report of a late meeting another <■' "lady teacher baa resigned her appointment. , Trusting that the Committee will , xapognise the need of giving householders Wine district full particulars of the jln- •'""' / ntectorVlate visit and contingent corres/pondence,—l am, etc., '■',...} Aghbnrton, June 23.
