At the Police Court this morning, bsfor? B. Alcorn, Esq., J.P., a first offender was fined 5a for drunkenness, with the usual alternative. The meet of the Ashburton hounds fixed for Chertsey on Saturday last was postponed, some of the country over which it was proposed to hunt being under Water. On Thursday the hounds will meet at Winslow or Windermere, and on Saturday at Chertsey. On Saturday evening a telegram was received from .Sir Julius Yogel by his local Committee intimating that he placed his candidature entirely in their hands. Prom this we understand that Sir Julius will contest the Ashburton constituency, if recommended to do so by his friends.
