Ashburton Guardian Office, ; Wednesday Afternoon.- ‘ 'Messrs Matsoh, Cox and Co., report upon , the live stock market for the Ashburton district for the week ending June 17th, as follows : On Tuesday at the Ashburton Yards we held our usual weekly sale of sheep,* pigs, and r »tt l» The att.ndance was moderate, and the catalogue for the day’s transactions small. In fat sheep,'the entries consisted of fat cross4bred ewes and a few pens of crossbred wethers, B nd a larger number of merino wethers, than we have seen in the ya ds for some time, but ■til of medium qutlity. In store sheep there was a very poor entry, but even this was more than sufficient for present requirements, as feed , has fallen off very quickly w.th the late heavy frosts. In cattle there was a poor enry, and competition weak .except for dairy cows either; just calved or close on calving. We quote muttan at ad to aj£d per lb, and beef at 16s to'rys per loolbs. We sold 25 crossbred fat ewes at 13s 6d, 25 ditto at 12s 6d, 50 twotooth ewes and wethers at 12s 6d, 25 crossbred ewes at us 9 50 ditto at ns 3d, 9S merino wethers at 7s 6d, 50 merino ewes at 5s 6d, 41 two-tooth merino wethers at $s 4d, 97 merino 1 mbs at 3s 6d, 7 fat pigs at 1 2155, 1 fat cow at Ijj ss, 2 fat steers at L 6 10s, 2 sma’l steers at 3.3 ss, 2 ditto heifers at L 3,2 ditto at L2 10s, X steer at La 2s 6d; 1 heifer ’at L2 2s 6d, 3 calves'at 17s, 3 heifers at L 4 2s6d. Ashburton Live Stock Market—Mr B. G. Staveley, for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited, reports on the Ashburton Live stock Market under date 17th June ;—Supplies of all stock were moderate, and the attendance below the average. The market throughout was devoid oi life, but a r quiet-business was done at our quotations, most of the entries yarded changing hands. : Fat mixed, brought 123 und 13s 6d-; 2-tooth wethers, 12s 3d ; fat merino ewes, ss; do wethers, 8s } aged merino ewes, 3s id } store merino wethers, forward condition, 7s id. « - Fat cows and'heifers made L 4 17 s 6d ; bullocks, Ljs ss; forward steers, 1-3 5 s and L 3 17s 6d ; dry cows and heifers, L 3 to L 4 2s 6d; medium dairy cows, L 3 JJs.
