Dated this 9th day of June, 1834, at Ashburton. 6 1126 rji o THE ELECTORS OF ASHBURTON. ’ 3 Gentlemen, —I am coming forward to stand as a Candidate for the Ashburton County, specially as a Liberal, for 1 see , the sufferings of the people and wish to help them in their need and necessity. I believe in the Horae Government, ; and hold with the Home rule. I do not at present favor immigration. 1 think the Government should put on third class carriages for third class passengers, such as paupers, cow boys, shepherds, plough boys, housemaids if these are not all third class quality the Government can call me a liar. I believe that the Government should look to the unemployed, so as to take them all over the colony by railway free. I believe in reducing the duty on spirits, beer, tobacco and tea, and lowering the price of trainage. These are my principal views, and my other views most of the people of Ashburton County know. lam not able to employ the halls and public schools to lecture in, so I am in the habit of visiting all churches of religion and all ministers while they are in time of devotion, and I inspect them, and it is their fervent prayer, looking to Christ on High, lhat He might forgive them all their sins and elect their souls to their Heavenly Bhther, who I put my trust in, and you will elect me in that grand and magnificent Parliament seat. I will stand on the nominating day and the day of the poll, and I will give a speech to your satisfaction. Yours truly, 6 1176 PHILTL MAGUIRE. mo THE ELECTORS A- OF ASHBURTON. i > ?
