Ashburton Guardian Office, Wednesday Afternoon. The Sydney Markets. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, limited, report on the Sydney Markets, under date May 29, as follows :—Wool : We can report no change.— f .'Sheepskins : A good demand continues at rates last quoted.—Tallow : News of the continuance of 'unsatisfactory prices in London j having been received, our market remains dull; but should prices suffer a further fall, we may expect to see some heavy purchases for specula-tion.—-Butter*. Our last circular prepared our friends for the fall which followed some days after its isstie.- The supplies of N. S. Wales butter scarcely justified the step taken by the local Butter Company, but there can be no doubt that the object was to discourage New Zealand shippers, the Company being somewhat jealous of the hold that imported butter had taken upon the trade; this hold we hope to retain, if producers will keep up the standard of excellence and pay the necessary amount of attention to packing. We have ’’' heard rumors of a further fall, and we think it quite possible that within the next fortninght they may be verified! Our market is very flat, and stocks arc fast accumulating. We quote : Primes! N.Z. in Australian kegs, 13d to isd ■ per lb; primest N.Z. in N.Z t ‘ kegs, lid to 13d; fresh roll, in pickle, 13d to 13d; good salt, qd to lod; inferior, fid to yd,—Oats; Business has been rather flat, and anything short of very prime samples obtaialittle notice. We quote ;—Prime heavy feed, 2s ud to 3s per bushel} medium quality, 2s qd to 2s ipd. —Wheat: This market shows some little improvement, and shipments of good milling qualities on a moderate scale would, we think, meet with attention.
